Expression of interest - Elsternwick Urban Renewal South Masterplan Community Reference Group
WANT TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE AND HELP US SHAPE THE FUTURE OF ELSTERNWICK?
Are you passionate about Elsternwick? Are you keen to ensure that the neighbourhood grows and changes in a smart, inclusive and sustainable way? Do you have skills that would help us think about how we plan new open space, housing and public spaces?
Council is calling on the community of Elsternwick to nominate to be part of our new Community Reference Group.
What is this Community Reference Group about?
We understand that local passion and knowledge are essential to ensuring the best possible outcome for the urban renewal areas in Elsternwick.
We are looking to appoint a local Community Reference Group, consisting of approximately 10 local representatives appointed through expression of interest, to help guide planning for the Elsternwick Urban Renewal South Masterplan.
The Community Reference Group will bring local knowledge and individual skills and passion to help guide the development of a new Masterplan for the designated Urban Renewal South area adjacent to the Nepean Highway. Members will also share progress on the development of the Masterplan with their family, friends, colleagues and neighbours.
The group will meet approximately 10 times throughout the development of the Masterplan and provide local advice and recommendations to Council.
We are looking for local representatives to help guide the new Masterplan by bringing specialist guidance around aspects such as parks, urban design, sustainability and social inclusion, and provide an authentic expression of the community’s hopes for the future of this part of Elsternwick.
Who are we looking for?
We are seeking members, of all ages who:
- Are passionate about Elsternwick and its future.
- Can help to represent a broad range of views that reflect the diversity of the community.
- Are willing to contribute positively to activities and meetings.
- Have an open mind and are willing to learn new things.
- Bring a diversity of skills and passions to the table.
We are particularly interested in community members who live or work close to the urban renewal south area identified in the map.
What specialist skills and passions would we like to see in the Community Reference Group?
We know that an innovative and community-focused Masterplan needs to be guided by local people – people who live and breathe Elsternwick. However, we are hoping that the Community Reference Group can also bring a set of skills that can ensure we’re considering a variety of planning, design and community-focused topics. These might include:
- Urban design and architecture.
- Community services such as childcare, social work and aged care.
- Creative arts and culture.
- Cultural heritage and history.
- Education.
- Technology.
- Finance sector/economics.
- Social justice.
- Health.
- Sustainability and the environment.
- Sustainable transport.
- Green spaces and landscape architecture, including parks, gardens.
- Urban agriculture and food security.
- Extensive local knowledge.
- Other skills you think would contribute to the masterplan.
You may not actively work in these fields, but simply have a passion and energy for the topic that would help guide the development of the new Masterplan.
What engagement will be undertaken with the community?
There are two phases of engagement with the community to inform the development of the new Masterplan.
Phase one of the engagement process (July-August 2018) will gather community ideas, concerns, initiatives and energy to help build a draft Masterplan.During phase two (September-December), we will invite community feedback on the draft Masterplan.
The community will also have the opportunity to participate in the formal submission process once the Planning Scheme Amendment is exhibited.
What is the role of the Community Reference Group?
This Community Reference Group will participate in a series of activities throughout the development of the Masterplan, which will include meetings, workshops and presentations. Background reading documents may be supplied via an online forum as required, with activities and meetings anticipated to take place face-to-face, outside of normal business operating hours. Activities will either be held at or will commence at the Caulfield RSL in Elsternwick.
The first meeting will be held on Thursday 30 August, 6.30pm at Caulfield RSL, 4 St Georges Road Elsternwick.
