Traffic and movement
We also know that many people are concerned about traffic in the Urban Renewal South area and surrounds.
Previous community feedback through six stages of consultation for structure planning as well as the proposed scope of this project includes:
- Congestion at pick-up and drop-off times at Leibler Yavneh College
- Commuters parking in St James Parade and surrounding streets
- ‘Rat running’ occurring through streets such as St James Parade and McMillan Street
- Limited parking available in streets such as Alexandra and Oak Avenues, Riddell Parade, Marmara Drive, Elm Avenue and St James Parade
As part of this process, we are developing a Traffic and Movement Plan that will propose changes to the existing local roads. This will help us to address your concerns and make both short and longer-term improvements for your neighbourhood.

The Movement and Traffic Technical Assessment prepared by Traffix Group proposes four design options to reduce rat-running through the neighbourhood via St James Parade.
- Option 1 Terminate Service Road North of St James Parade
- Option 2 Close Service Road Access to St James Parade
- Option 3 Close Service Road Access to St James Parade and Reinstate Access to Elster Avenue
- Option 4 Terminate Service Road North of Railway Overpass
One Mile Grid has produced a report that analyses traffic and movement in more detail. The data has supported the concerns above. To read a summary of the findings, click here. The full One Mile Grid report can be downloaded here.
