IMPLEMENTING THE BENTLEIGH STRUCTURE PLAN

Since 2017, Council has been engaged in a conversation with the Glen Eira community to develop long-term plans (Structure Plans) for Glen Eira's activity centres. Structure plans are important ways to plan for, and shape, future growth and change. Through structure plans, Council can balance planning for future jobs and housing growth, while ensuring Glen Eira continues to be a great place to live and work.

To read more about these Plans, see the FAQ to the right on this page.

After an extensive process of engagement with the community, a Structure Plan for Bentleigh was adopted in December 2018, setting a new policy direction and 15-year vision for Bentleigh:

Bentleigh will be an accessible, local shopping destination with a vibrant cafe and restaurant culture. It will maintain its community feel with open space, places for people to meet and gather and a broad range of local businesses, all of which will meet the needs of a diverse community.

Following adoption, Council has been working to implement the objectives of the Plan, including through making changes to the Glen Eira Planning Scheme.

A Planning Scheme Amendment (Amendment C184) has been prepared, which seeks to input land use and development components of the Bentleigh (and Carnegie) Structure Plans into the Glen Eira Planning Scheme.

To read more about the Planning Scheme, review the FAQs to the right on this page.

Council has sought authorisation from the Victorian Minister for Planning for Amendment C184 to go to exhibition. Exhibition is a formal process that provides an opportunity to make a formal submission on the proposed Amendment. After receiving authorisation, the Amendment will proceed to exhibition stage.

Owners and occupiers will be notified of exhibition by mail. To be kept up to date, please subscribe to the subscription box on this page.
