Community Vision
Consultation on the draft Vision is now closed. Thank you to all who participated! Your feedback will be collated and provided to your community representatives who will meet again in March 2021 to edit and finalise Community Vision reflecting on the feedback and comments received.
Despite the dramatic changes that affected our lives in 2020, your community representatives (32 diverse, local residents who formed the final deliberative citizens panel) were able to push on to develop a draft community vision that we are now proud to present to you.
They worked hard for more than 25 hours, over several months, face to face and online to develop the Vision. They listened to each other, debated, struggled with the meaning and application of words, compromised their opinions and made some hard decisions to develop a community vision that includes; a vision statement, six principles and two minority reports.
It was a difficult but rewarding journey for them.

Councillors are elected by residents. The elected members determine planning policy. They direct their planners on what to implement.

Council that listens properly.
1 comment0Monforestover 2 years agoTalk less design more
Creating a long shopping list serves no good for anyone. Council projects are usually bad because they try to make everyone happy. We need design-led placing shaping because design is not to create a wish list but to put things together orderly and artfully.

Council should stop outsourcing building surveryance and approvals or at least be policed better. Someone has to become more responsible for shoddy building, using poor quality products and no care factor.

safe bike paths for kids to ride to school, libraries, GESAC, sports. shops and friends so parents are not stuck in cars as "mum's taxis" and kids can enjoy their neighbourhoods. Safe bike and walking routes to public transport for kids and women at night. Low front fences and leafy front gardens on houses and apartments and attractive shopfronts so that footpaths are safe and cars can see safely when coming out of driveways and you can knock on a front door in case of emergency.
0 comment2Monforestover 2 years agoTurn sports clubs into multi-purpose community facilities
Glen Eira has many new sports facilities that are well distributed and located in the community. Unfortunately they are empty and under used most of the time due to being are exclusive to sports clubs rather than broader community members. It would be good to explore the possibilities of co-using these expensive facilities we all paid for as long as not clashed with the sport events.

On the main streets of Koornang Road and Centre Roads, there are many power poles that have been painted to bring liveliness to the main street. I would love to see the boring power poles in suburban streets also painted so that they're not so much of an eye-sore!
