Car sharing is a membership-based scheme that provides access to a vehicle when required. The vehicle can be rented by the hour or for a number of days. Rental includes fuel, insurance, maintenance, registration, road side assistance and cleaning. Access is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week and bookings can be made over the phone or online.
Car sharing is a good option for people living or working in locations where there is access to alternative modes of transport, such as walking, cycling, trains, trams and buses. Car sharing is also useful for people who do not need a car every day or do not want to retain a second (or third) car.
Since 2014, Council has supported a trial of the car share scheme with two providers and cars available at 12 sites across the City of Glen Eira. The trial has been deemed a success and Council is now seeking to formalise the program, with a Car Share Policy.
Until the end of November, members of the community can find out more about the draft Car Share Policy which is available from the documents library on the right and provide any feedback via the submission form below.
Submissions close Wednesday 14 December.
