Now more than ever, we need our public spaces to be healthy, to ensure people feel welcome and invited to shop, walk, browse and socialise safely!
Early in 2020 Council endorsed a Draft Smoke-Free Outdoor Policy, with an action to create smoke-free zones in our busy, activity centres. Smoke-free zones will complement those areas that are already smoke-free and cover public spaces that include the footpath and walkways, plazas, car parks and other open spaces, with businesses and private homes excluded.
The Draft Smoke-Free Outdoor Policy aimed to:
reduce the impact of smoke,
raise community awareness of the health benefits of being smoke-free,
improve public amenity,
reduce tobacco-related litter and encourage reduction in smoking.
Working to achieve these objectives requires a whole-of-community approach and that’s why the draft policy came with a plan for communicating and working with community members, and traders.
In June, we asked you what you thought of the draft Policy and what you thought about smoke-freeing our public places and spaces.
The opportunity to provide feedback closed 21 June 2020.
Thank you to all community members who provided feedback, your thoughts and ideas were drawn on to review and refine the draft Policy and Plan. Council endorsed a revised final Policy on 21 July 2020. You can view the engagement report and the report to Council which includes the final Policy and Plan, in the document library to the right.

This survey will ask you a bit about yourself, then take you through the draft Policy and plan for communication, and ask for your feedback. To read both documents, please access the document library on this site.
