What is the Municipal Early Year Plan?

The Glen Eira City Council’s Municipal Early Years Plan (MEYP) is designed to provide strategic direction for the development and co-ordination of early education and care, health services, activities and other local developments that impact on children from birth to six years, and their families within our municipality.

Why does Council have a Municipal Early Years Plan?

Council develops the Municipal Early Years Plan (MEYP) in line with an agreement between the Municipal Association of Victoria (MAV) and the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development (DEECD).  A commitment to the plan is also articulated in Council's Community Plan.

It is expected that the MEYP will improve outcomes for children and families within the Glen Eira municipality through:

    • improved local planning, development and evaluation of early years' programs, activities and facilities across all Council departments;
    • stronger partnerships and networks across the service system; and
    • focused family and community connections.

Where can I get a copy of the current Municipal Early Years Plan

A copy of the plan is available on Council's website under publications:

What information is considered when developing the Municipal Early Years Plan?

The MEYP uses information from community consultations alongside a range of other material including state and federal policies that guide national early years activity, demographic data that helps us understand particular communities, and research about how early years' experiences impact on health, wellbeing, educational outcomes and future life chances.

How can I make sure my views are heard?

You are invited to contribute to the development of the MEYP through the online forum and at three public consultations which will be held from 7:30 pm on the following dates:

°         26 February at Carnegie Library and Community Centre in the Boyd Room

°         27 February at  Moorleigh Social Room, Bignell Road in Bentleigh East

°         6 March at Glen Eira Town Hall in the Caulfield Cup Room

    What other consultation has occurred?

Extensive community consultation occured in 2012 to develop the Community Plan and this information is also relevant for the MEYP.

In December 2012 we circulated more than 2000 surveys to families who use our Maternal and Child Health Services, Children’s Centres, Occasional care and Family Day Care scheme. The survey told us a number of things about what families like about living in Glen Eira and we have used these to inform our online questions.

Information is also being sought through service networks.
