The new bandstand is the first project from the Hopetoun Gardens Landscape Masterplan (view here) and will improve access and usage while celebrating the historical elements which make the gardens unique.
The new bandstand will be constructed at ground level and include multiple entrances, bench seating and surrounded by garden beds. The design will reference the element and form of the many designs over the years, this will ensure the identity and character of the gardens is maintained.
While the existing bandstand has a heritage appearance, it is far removed from the original bandstand which was relocated from Elsternwick Plaza in 1909. Substantial modifications through over the years include different roofs being added, multiple balustrade replacements, various decorative features and being elevated to accommodate maintenance storage.
Works are expected to be completed by 31 December 2021.
If you have any questions about the project or the landscape masterplan, please contact the Recreation and Open Space Team recservices@gleneira.vic.gov.au or 9524 3333.
