Transforming Hughesdale together

Hughesdale is changing, with new developments, level crossing removals and station works.

With the state government’s level crossing works now underway in Hughesdale, Council wants to support our community through this period and help make the most of the opportunity to create a better shopping centre long-term.

This page will keep you up to date with the changes happening in Hughesdale and let you join in the conversation to help shape the future of your shopping strip.

You can also provide feedback to the Level Crossing Removal Authority on some of the ideas proposed (or your own creative ideas) for the open space that will be created by the elevated rail at their ‘Open Space Hub’

Over the next 12 months we will develop a vision and key objectives, explore future projects and ideas and develop a long term plan for Hughesdale Shopping Strip. There will be a number of opportunities for you to be involved through this page and community forums.

Stage four: Quality design principles - this consultation has now closed

Council sought feedback on its Quality Design Principles which introduce design principles and preferred building types for Glen Eira. The Principles respond to community concerns about development in Glen Eira, as well as achieving the community’s aspirations for reinvigorated activity centres.

Community feedback on this document will inform Council’s Quality Design Guidelines.

The Quality Design Guidelines will build on the Quality Design Principles to provide direction for future residential, commercial, mixed use and urban renewal development for the whole of Glen Eira. This will include further information on setbacks, heights and building design. Further feedback will be sought on the guidelines before seeking adoption by Council.
