Our housing, our future

There are a huge range of different housing experiences out there in our community. But for us all, housing is important to how we live and want to live, and how others might want to live too.

Council is preparing a new Housing Strategy, which will aim to identify where and how our housing needs now and in the future will be met.

As more people choose to call Glen Eira home, the Strategy will support Council to meet the challenge of planning for growth in a way that maintains our liveability and works towards important benefits: more housing diversity; addressing affordability; and meeting our sustainability aspirations.

In a nutshell, what will the Strategy do? The Strategy will look across Glen Eira, and identify areas for different levels of housing change. It will assess the way the community is growing and changing and it will identify and consider the character of different areas in the community it is important to protect.

And what won't it do? It's really important to know that the Strategy is not about saying 'no' to change. More housing is being built in Glen Eira, and these changes will continue. Our role is to manage this change while supporting amenity and liveability, and the Strategy will assist in this work.

To develop the Strategy, we need your input!

STARTING WITH SOME KEY ISSUES

In recent years, we've heard from many people about housing. From what has been shared, we've pulled together some key themes, each covering a range of issues. We've set these out in an issues and opportunities paper - check it out below. Selecting the 'full screen' option from the bottom right hand corner (or centre image if viewing on a phone) will enable you to see the document in full. 'Esc' on your keyboard or tapping the back button on a phone will exit this view.

SHARE YOUR FEEDBACK

We'd love to hear from you! There are a number of ways you can get involved.

1. Tell us what you think about our housing themes and issues - have we got them right? Share your ideas by clicking a theme of your choice below.

2. Tell us about yourself - what is your own housing experience? Complete our survey here

3. Are you a representative of a community organisation interested in housing issues? Share your input here.
