Help shape the concept design

We're planning to transform the former East Boundary Road Traffic School site into a welcoming, publicly accessible open space and bike playground for the Glen Eira community.

We've developed two concept designs, and we're inviting the community to help shape the final design.

Located within King George VI Memorial Reserve, the Traffic School was a much-loved local facility for generations. Since its closure in December 2022, the site has not been open to the public.

This project is funded through a $250,000 grant from the Victorian Government's Pick My Park program, alongside a $250,000 contribution from Council.

Two concept options

Both options:

  • Retain elements of the existing track layout, with new features and improvements.
  • Include spaces for bike riding and play, with retained features such as traffic lights and signs, road line markings, and the level railway crossing.
  • Provide open space, seating, gathering areas and accessible paths.
  • Retain the site's significant mature trees and add new garden beds to support biodiversity.
  • Include a bicycle repair station, bike hoops and drinking fountain.
  • Include mini-city play elements, such as shop fronts.

CONCEPT ONE: MORE SPACE FOR BIKE RIDING

  • Retains most of the existing riding track, making bike riding the main focus.
  • Includes a shared zone for people and bikes near community gathering space.

CONCEPT TWO: MORE BALANCED MIX OF USES

  • Retains less of the existing riding track and introduces challenge riding features, such as bumps and raised, banked turns.
  • Provides more open lawn space and nature play opportunities.
