We're developing a new Circular Economy Plan for 2026–2030 and we'd like your feedback.

The Plan sets out how Council can reduce waste, reuse more resources, improve recycling and support our community to live more sustainably. We want to know if we've got the priorities right and what else we should consider.

Why we're developing a Circular Economy Plan?

Our current Circular Economy Plan is coming to an end, so we're planning for the next four years. The new plan will build on what’s already working and respond to growing challenges — including rising waste disposal costs, finite resources, and the environmental impacts of what we throw away.

The new Plan is about turning community momentum into simple, practical actions that benefit everyone — helping keep our neighbourhoods clean, reducing our environmental impact and supporting a more sustainable, liveable Glen Eira.

What is in the draft Plan?

The draft Plan focuses on four key objectives:

  • Leading by example

    Council operations, purchasing and projects

  • Supporting community action

    Helping residents, businesses and community groups reduce waste and reuse more resources.

  • Recovering more resources from waste

    Improving recycling, composting and resource recovery while reducing contamination.

  • Designing better waste services

    Creating waste and recycling services that are more effective, accessible and resilient.
