The open space design is ready

Earlier this year, you shared your ideas for transforming The Elsternwick Club site into a future open space.

We received more than 360 ideas and suggestions to help shape the draft design. We heard you value:

  • A peaceful, flexible space for relaxing — not just organised sport.
  • Shade and greenery from trees and structures.
  • Social gathering spaces to connect.
  • Green lawns for informal play and picnics.

Guided by your ideas — and advice from the project's Advisory Committee — the draft design is now ready.

    Many of you shared great ideas for the historic building — from community hubs to cafes.

    This engagement phase focuses only on the outdoor space. Planning for the building will take place separately.

What we've heard so far 👂

We're engaging with our community over three phases — and we're currently in phase two.

  • Phase one: Community visioning

    The first phase of engagement was open for a four-week period from 5 February – 5 March 2025. We asked the community to share their vision for the site — from reimagining the heritage building to designing the surrounding green spaces — and invited expressions of interest to join the project Advisory Committee.

    We’ve appointed 10 local community representatives to our project Advisory Committee, who were selected through an expression of interest process. The group will play a key role in shaping the design and use of the space.
